Cheap parking at Cliffs of Moher and some other advises for visitors

The CLIFFS OF Moher is Ireland’s top tourist attraction, with 1.5 million people visiting each year to admire the stunning landscape and breathtaking scenery.

What’s the best way for Clare coast residents to enjoy this area without crowds? Martina McCarthy, Moher Tours’ local guide, was asked by thejournal.ie. She grew up here and leads visitors on guided walks through Liscannor as well as the famous Cliffs.

What is the best time to go?

McCarthy suggests that you should visit Cliffs of Moher early in the morning, or later in the afternoon, because there are a lot of people who come to them every day, especially during busy summer seasons.

You might need to make sure you have a great time and check the weather forecast before you leave. The cliffs are stunning at all times of the year. You just need to be more cautious in winter. The paths can become slippery if they’re wet, and you’re exposed when it’s windy.

Pro tip: Go to Cliffs of Moher in the evening for a more relaxing experience. The cliffs glow pink at sunset, which is a spectacular sight and quieter than going in the middle or late afternoon.

Where can I park my car?

The Cliffs of Moher visitor center has a large parking lot. You can park your car all day at the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre for EUR8 (children are free) or EUR4 if you buy an off-peak ticket online.

Guerin’s Path is another option. It’s located about 1km from the visitor center and costs EUR5 per head. If you are willing to walk a little more, you can park your car in nearby Liscannor or Doolin.

Pro tip: Park close to Hag’s Head. This is the most southern point on the cliffs. McCarthy says that McCarthy pointed out that there is a small parking lot with a EUR2 honesty container. It’s only a 10 minute walk from the cliffs.

Which are the most important sights to see?

Tourists will be drawn to the visitor center, which is located on the hillside between the cliffs. There are interactive exhibits and videos inside, and there are viewing platforms and protected pathways outside. O’Brien’s Tower is also available for EUR2, which has been at the top of the cliffs since 1921.

There are many spots that you can take in the beauty of the coastline, such as the caves and sea arches created by coastal erosion.

It’s nice to see the beautiful flowers, birds, and stones. McCarthy states that the air up there is fresh and clear, and you can see all of it on a clear day.”

“Looking to the north and west, you can see the Galway Mountains and the Aran Islands. To the south, you can see Liscannor Bay and Loop Head.

Pro tip: Allow yourself time to see the scenery and cliffs properly. Some people only have an hour, so you can take the famous photograph. McCarthy says that those with more time should still get out and explore the area.

What are the best places for lunch?

The visitor center has a cafeteria and a restaurant. There are also picnic tables outside for those who wish to bring their own lunch.

McCarthy recommends visiting Liscannor and Doolin if you have more time. There are many cafes, pubs, and restaurants. These include McHugh’s Rock Shop, Doolin Cafe and McHugh’s Egan’s Vaughan’s and Gus O’Connor’s.

Pro tip: Moher Cottage is located on the road to Liscannor and was voted “best coffee in Ireland” in a Today FM poll. “This is a great place to grab coffee and a snack. Caitriona Conidine transformed it into a beautiful coffee shop and gift shop. McCarthy adds that her husband also owns Considine’s Bar, which serves great pizza on weekends.”

How can I get away from the crowds at the Cliffs?

The Cliffs of Moher coast walk is a great way to enjoy the best views and avoid crowds at the visitor center. The trail follows the coast for almost 20km, passing through farms and other land.

McCarthy said, “The coast walk is so different that you might not even see any tourists at certain points.”

You can start in either direction. However, if you’re feeling fit, I recommend that you start at Doolin in morning, walk the 8km to the visitor center, then continue to Hag’s Head (5km).

It’s a narrow path along a exposed cliff edge, so be cautious with children. It is easy to follow and you won’t get lost.

Pro tip: A shuttle bus runs along the coast from Doolin to Hag’s Head, and back to Liscannor. McCarthy states that the shuttle bus runs the circuit from 9am to the evening so you can walk a portion of the walk before returning to your car.

Are there hidden gems that I should be looking out for?

You can’t go wrong with a visit to the beach if you’re on the Clare coast. You can swim and do watersports at many popular locations near the Cliffs of Moher, including Fanore and Spanish Point. But Clahane is a great place to find a hidden gem.

McCarthy states that Clahane, although busy at Lahinch, is a beautiful little beach that would be well-known by locals.”

It’s a beautiful beach with a lot of rock pools and sand. You can park your car there, and take a walk around Clahane to enjoy the sunset.

Pro tip: Keep an eye out for Wild Atlantic Seaweed Baths. They regularly bring mini “hot tubs” made from old barrels to Clahane. The heated seaweed barrels are large enough to hold two people. You can also just relax under fairy lights and watch the world pass by. McCarthy says that it is one of the most beautiful experiences he has ever had.

Is it difficult to replace a door knob?

To replace a door handle, or knob in your kitchen, you will need a new handle set and a flat head screwdriver. Replacing an old handle can be done quickly and easily, no matter whether it’s to replace a damaged knob or enhance the appearance of your door. Grab a set of door handles that you like at a hardware shop or home improvement center, and get your screwdriver ready. Soon, your door will be transformed!

The door handles on your doors may need some attention or replacement. Do you prefer a handyman or DIY? A good door handle will last up to 25 years. There are many components that will wear down and sometimes fail, so it is important to pay attention.

Door handles are simple to replace. Yes, most door handles can be easily replaced. There are some things you should know about door handles if you want to replace them.

Is it difficult to replace a door knob?
Is it difficult to replace a door knob?

Not every door handle is the same

We will be happy to assist you with replacing the door handle if you bring the handle and a photograph of the door.

To find the right replacement, you can also measure the roseplate’s diameter and the actual cutout at the door.

Some door handles require a larger (70mm +/-)) hole to be cut, while the majority of door handle designs only require a small 25mm cut.

Firstly – We should ask ourselves why you would like to change the door handles.

Is it:

  • You want to replace them with something new.
  • b. They aren’t working correctly, or they are sagging. Repairs possible
  • c. I do the same thing every few years in an attempt to annoy my husband. This could lead to divorce

Secondly are you going to be replacing your doors or getting them painted and/or patched if necessary. This is a question you can ask your DIY- or handyman after they have been examined. You will need to find out if the doors are still functional or should they be replaced.

– Are these handles for a lock latch or privacy? Are the latches or locks working well or are they causing problems? Are they necessary to be replaced? This could lead to more DIY-friendly, handy-man intervention.

It’s not unusual for quality door handles to be in good condition 20 years later, but the latches or locks are failing. You might also consider a powder coated finish if your door handle’s finish looks dated.

Removing Door Handles

Most door handles are very easy to take off. Most door handles will be attached to the door with screws. But some may have a -grub screw. Some will conceal hidden fixings beneath the outer roseplate. Some may have double fixs that are a screw from both directions.

Look for concealed fixings, grub screw types, and screw head type.

  1. Visible fix screws may be removed with a suitable driver.
  2. Concealed fix has a cover plate or outer Rose that can either be removed clockwise or slip-on.
  3. European handles are more likely to have a push on covering that will require extra care. The bottom of the cover plate should have an insertion hole. With a small blade screwdriver, you can lift the cover off. NOTE remove grub screws first! You should take extra care as these could cause damage to your door.

The replacement question will be determined by the new handle fittings.

You should think that if DIY is not your thing, then hiring a handyman would be the best choice.

Before you make the final decision, it is important to consider how the door handle will look.

Place a) the hole in the door.

b. Does it need to be resized, or will it be necessary to fill in the existing cutout.

If we have the handle, and a photo showing the cutout of the door, we can direct you in the right way. They are highly recommended.

It’s easy to replace like-for-like.

If you have the same handle and the fittings are still the same, it is very easy to do DIY.

Door handles’ design and style can change. While you might find the same shape handle, the fitting could have changed.

You might find the same handle from another manufacturer, which can impact price.

Repair

Your existing door handle might be repaired. This may include replacing the spring or upgrading the latch.

Older handles that have lost their springs and are no longer in stock can be restored with an upgraded heavy-duty latch.

It is important to understand the situation in order to make an informed decision about what action to take.

Refurbishment door handles

We might be able provide a refurbishment option for door handles that are old and worn but still function.

You might be able to refurbish the brass handles that are older. We could repair or replace springs, cams, or even clean the handle. Some are suitable for powder coating.

Bring a few handles with you so that we can inspect them for possible refurbishment.

New Door New Handles

You can replace your doors with a new handle. We have many options.

We can help you select the door handle that you prefer.

Our website will connect you to the finest door handles around. The only thing you have to do is decide which one is right for you.

What can go wrong?

While door handles may be easy to replace with, there are certain things you should avoid.

  • Incorrect orientation: This is a common mistake in the first attempt at this task. You may finish the job and then realize that you accidentally placed the door handle the wrong direction.
  • Not properly aligning the holes while attaching the new lock.
  • Drilling a new hole can damage your door. You should always be careful with the drill.

Not sure…

You can send us pictures of your work if you are unsure. You can also bring a handle and photos of your doors for a show & tell.

We can then offer suggestions, options and directions.

Door handles are often neglected over time. The door handle is usually considered a part of the furniture, and should be shiny and new when it was first installed.

You are looking to modernize your kitchen furniture.

How to Clean Car Windows

Are you having difficulty seeing the road? You need to clean your windshield if grease or grime is blocking your vision. A windshield clean every two weeks will allow you to see more clearly and prevent accidents. This helps your defroster work more efficiently by removing condensation or ‘fog, which sticks more easily to dirty windshield surfaces.

How to Clean Car Windows
How to Clean Car Windows

How does my windshield get so gross?

There are many reasons your car’s windshield might get stained, such as dog or child’s noses, fingerprints, smog and smoking, dirt and dust from traffic, salt and other environmental contaminants. One reason is car off-gassing. The “new car smell” comes from various vinyl and plastic components. They eventually get trapped in the car and create an oily residue. The windshield, which is usually perfectly angled, captures most of this oily residue. This issue can be worsened if oily cleaners are used on the dashboard. They evaporate and form a film that coats the glass further, especially in hot humid weather.

How to clean your car’s interior windshield

What Do You Need?

  • Microfiber rags without lint
  • Glass cleaner
  • Vinegar
  • Rub alcohol

Cleaning steps:

  • Combine solution in a spray can. You can use these popular and effective options:
    • 50% alcohol, 50% of water, and a half cup of white vinegar.
    • 70% water and 15% window cleaner. 15% alcohol.
    • *Use an automobile-specific cleaner. Avoid ammonia based cleaners. These can damage vinyl and leather.
  • Grab your materials, then jump in your passenger’s seat to make windshield glass installation easier.
  • First, wipe the glass with a dry, clean microfiber towel.
  • Next, use a clean cloth and rubbing Alcohol to remove the grit. If you live near the sea, vinegar can be used for cleaning the glass to dissolve the salt.
  • You can use a different side or a clean one. Spray the glass cleaner onto the rag (not on the windshield), and then clean the glass with circular motions.
  • Get rid of them as soon as they are dirty.
  • For a streak-free shine, wipe the glass with up-and–down motions.

Tips and Tricks to Success:

  • After cleaning the exterior and wiping down the interior of your vehicle, clean your windshield.
  • Avoid rapid evaporation by wiping windows in the sun or when it is cooler.
  • Use rags you used to clean your windshield. A greasy, oily windshield can result from wax and other detailing compounds.

Ensure Your Sparkling Windows Last

Once your windshield has been cleaned, keep it clean. This helps keep your car cooler and gives gases a way out. You should park your car in shaded/sheltered areas to keep it cool, such as your garage. Cracking the windows of your car can prevent off gassing and the buildup in contaminants. However, this is not possible on rainy days.

How to clean the rubber on car windows

It’s easy for people not to notice the rubber trim that surrounds your car’s windows. Since it’s not included in the window or car body categories, it’s difficult to clean. Rubber trims are important as they protect your windows from moisture and contaminants.

You can clean them in a matter minutes.

  1. Apply car shampoo to all windows trims.
  2. Clean any dirt with a microfibre towel or sponge. You can use a soft toothbrush for very dirty or marked trim.
  3. You can wipe the shampoo with a microfibre cotton cloth.
  4. Dry with a microfibre towel

To keep your rubber in its best condition, apply a rubber protection agent once it has drained completely.

How much is foster care allowance in Ireland 2022

Here is an information regarding foster care allowance in Ireland in 2022.

The last increase in foster care allowance occurred on January 1, 2009. Foster carers receive a weekly allowance. This is a payment that meets the needs of the child they care for. Foster care allowances are currently EUR325/week for children under 12 years old and EUR352/week for those aged 12 and older. It is paid for the child and provides support to foster carers in meeting all their daily needs. It is not subject to taxes and is not used for social welfare purposes.

Tusla may also offer financial support to foster carers by providing additional or enhanced payments if necessary.

Additional payments are any payment to a foster caregiver that is not at the standard rate for the fostering allowance. Additional payments can be made for children and young people with additional needs, which are not covered under the standardised foster allowance. Additional payments cannot be made if a child has special educational or medical needs. Authorisation must also have been obtained from the Tusla Area manager. Additional payments will only be approved if the supporting documentation is provided.

Foster carers may be eligible for enhanced allowances if they have a longer-term financial need to provide additional support for the child.

Children between the ages of 0-18 years may receive a maximum of twice the weekly allowance if they need significant care beyond that provided for by other foster children. Children who have significant special needs or require high levels of supervision and personal care are included. Foster carers can provide care for these children by providing support through an increased allowance.

Foster care allowance is for and in the best interests of the foster children and must be used to cover the daily costs of looking after them. The assessing social worker must show that the standard foster care allowance does not cover the costs of caring for the child.

After submitting documentation and an assessment of the child’s need, the Area Manager must approve a request for enhanced support. Approval of an enhanced allowance request must include a review agreement.

Foster carers are eligible for a variety of support to help them continue to be a valued and respected part of the alternative care system.

This includes the foster care allowance. This support includes a link social worker and access to training and support groups meetings, as well as the allocation of a social workers for each child in care. If it is part their care plan, children can be provided with respite care.

Foster carers must be trained and assessed in order to provide the best care possible. Tusla recognizes the unique dynamics and personal nature of foster care. It addresses the training needs of the relatives of foster carers separately. Tusla also funds the Irish Foster Care Association, which provides support to foster carers in the form of advocacy, mediation, and training.

Foster care allowance is just one of the many support Tusla offers carers who offer care and home to children with additional or significant needs.

Tusla has advised that they recently held a consultation with foster carers.

Foster carers suggested that the foster care allowance be reviewed to reflect inflation and increases in social security allowances. Tusla is currently working on a paper in this area.

Officials at the Department are constantly reviewing the rate of the foster-care allowance and there is no plan to change it. The Department is currently reviewing the Child Care Act 1991 extensively and will be looking into foster care arrangements as part this review.

How to Clean Interior Plastic

How to clean interior plastic in your car

You can make sure your vehicle has a good look and maintain its resale value.

The interior design of a car's interior can vary. It all depends on the purpose of your vehicle, whether it is used for commercial purposes or a brand price. For example, some commercial vehicles have vinyl seating. But, no matter what sector you are in, there will be a range of plastics that form part of your dashboard and trim. It could be a textured or piano-black surface, or a "carbon-fibre" effect. High-end models will have real carbon fiber. But regardless of the type of plastic they still get dirty and require cleaning. This is how it works:

How to clean interior plastic of a car

  • Buckets of clean water
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Detailing brush to reach those difficult-to-reach corners
  • Microfibre cloths available
  • Drying towels
  • All-purpose cleaning product
  • Detailing spray for the final touch

How to clean plastic car interior

Every day we are in and out our cars, adding dust and finger marks to the interior surfaces. Although it is not difficult, cleaning your car's interior can make all the difference in how much you enjoy car ownership.

You can begin by vacuuming all surfaces to remove loose particles and surface dust. The tools are useful for getting into tight spaces. Car electronics are not fond of water, so keep it away from any areas that contain technology. Some surfaces, such as metal or plastic doors trims, can be scrubbed with a damp microfibre cloth. Then, use an interior cleaning product that is suitable for multiple surfaces to remove stubborn marks and spillage spots, and leave a shiny and clean surface.

To catch any excess liquid and dry surfaces before using a cleaning product, keep an automotive drying towel handy.

Tips: Spray surface cleaner sparingly on a microfibre cloth, and not all at once. Microfibre cloths can be used to collect dirt and can be washed again and again. They should be changed often when you are working.

The showroom finish is yours

You can clean interior surfaces with a vacuum and an all-purpose cleaning product. For a special touch, use a branded interior detailing spray, which is safe for plastic, vinyl, and metal surfaces. This product gives you a clean showroom look and repels dust. It is well worth the effort.

How to clean interior of black plastic cars

Some trim, whether it's textured or anonymous, doesn’t show dust. However, black plastic trim such as the popular shiny piano-black color is the most likely to show dust and marks. The same goes for plastic touchscreen surfaces. You can clean them the same way as before, but you can also use an antistatic detailing spray on a damp cloth. This spray will reduce dust buildup. You should not use it.

How to clean interior plastic trim in a car

First, clean out your door bins. Then vacuum up the area. You will find cleaner products that work well for this task. Use the brush attachment with the vacuum to reach all corners. A detailing brush can be used around switchesgear, air vents, and the like. You can then proceed with the cleaning steps described above.

How to clean the car's interior made of hard plastic

You should be careful with tools as hard plastics are susceptible to being scratched. You can start by wiping the surface with a microfibre towel. To get rid of stubborn marks, you can also use an all-purpose interior cleaner. Don't forget to not mix water with electronics.

How to clean car interior plastic

Mud is a common way to get out and about in winter. For example, boots rub against door trim. It will only lead to more mud. It's better to allow it to dry before brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush. It is best to not use a stiff brush, as this could cause scratches on the surface. To remove any stains or residue, wash the surface with a damp cloth. The interior detailing spray will give the plastic a new look.

How to clean interior of textured plastic car

Some car interiors have textured surfaces or grooved surface. One example is the plastic trim around the door shuts. It is still plastic, so clean it as usual but use a soft toothbrush to get into grooves and any texture that a vacuum can't reach.

A good car maintenance and cleaning is very satisfying. Take a moment to admire your efforts. A clean and tidy interior makes driving a pleasure. A well-maintained car will be more valuable.

Lack of property supply

There are many causes, but supply shortage is the most significant because it is now an suppliers market.

Blanchardstown Shopping Centre
Blanchardstown Shopping Centre

Many property developers went bankrupt as a result and some others have not been able to enter the market since. Much of the current construction is now commercial and not residential. Accommodation builders are more interested in Student Complexes than family homes.

The authorities stopped building any social housing. This put pressure on the private sector to rent.

Bedsits were outlawed to eliminate the lower market. A number of factors have led to the abandonment of accommodation over shops.

Many landlords are using the Airbnb platform to attract guests to their private accommodation.

Because of the increase in students coming to Ireland, accommodation demand has increased significantly. The USA had the highest number of international students in Ireland in 2016-17 (4,696). China (2,153), Saudi Arabia (1.396), Malaysia (1.380), Canada (1.356) and Canada (1.356 [there are many other students from Brazil, Vietnam, Africa]. It is believed that 2018 will see an increase in international students by 16%

Multinational companies are attracting large numbers overseas workers and, in some cases, subsidizing rents paid by employees.

There has been an influx into the country of ‘Professional Landlords’ and they are looking to get high prices.

Why is rent in Dublin so expensive?

Average rental prices in Ireland have reached a record high for the tenth quarter in succession and have risen for the 25th quarter in succession, according to the latest Irish rental price report by daft.ie.

The average cost of renting in Ireland is now EUR1,334 a month, a figure 30% higher than the peak figure in 2008, with figures in the report showing that Dublin rents are up by 10.9% year-on-year. So, let’s find out why is rent in Dublin so expensive.

Rent in Dublin compare to rent in London
Why is rent in Dublin so expensive?

When you consider move to Dublin or London you try to find out rent in Dublin compare to rent in London. Not surprisingly, Dublin is home to the most expensive areas to rent in the country. Average rent in South County Dublin is EUR2,156 per month, followed by South Dublin City at EUR2,094 per month, Central Dublin at EUR2,016 per month and North Dublin City at EUR1,847 per month. Rents for houses outside Dublin average EUR695, or EUR660 for apartments.

Irish Rents have been rising steadily since 2013, particularly in Dublin.

Here is 10 reasons why:

1. Lack of supply

Stop building homes and eventually you’ll run out of them. We’re building houses at 1970s rates for a population that’s 55 per cent higher than it was in that decade. We’ve plenty of ghost estates – but they were built where they were not needed. Urban Dublin never had much of a problem with ghost estates. In comparison, Co Cork still has 130, and Co Donegal still has 64. No houses means nowhere to buy and nowhere to rent.

2. End of the living-over-the-shop scheme

This was an extraordinarily generous scheme that could have provided more rental accommodation where it was needed and brought new life to moribund town and city centres. Ireland’s urban streets are full of old empty upper floors. The scheme offered 100 per cent tax relief for the cost of converting spaces over shops into apartments. The take-up was abysmal. Buildings’ owners cited onerous regulations, and too few streets were included in the scheme.

3. Tax treatment of private landlords

Without landlords there are no rental properties, and more than 70 per cent of private landlords with mortgages say that the rents don’t cover their repayments. In 2009 mortgage-interest relief against rental income was reduced for the private rental sector from 100 per cent to 75 per cent; the commercial rental sector still gets 100 per cent relief. New measures reinstate the 100 per cent relief but only for landlords renting to tenants in receipt of State support.

4. Incentives for making homes uninhabitable

An occupied commercial property is subject to commercial rates. A habitable unoccupied property is subject to 50 per cent of commercial rates. An uninhabitable, unoccupied property is not liable for rates at all, which may encourage a developer or owner to rip out toilets, lift and stairs – just to be sure there isn’t a tax liability. The Government says it’s going to change this one, but it’s a shocker that it has been going so long.

5. Ending the construction of social housing

Everyone blames the last government for ending social-housing construction and forcing local authorities to rent from private landlords. But the current lot haven’t done much to reverse that. Of the 100,000 social-housing units the Government says will be put into the system by 2020, only 35,000 will be built; the rest will be leased or rented. People on low fixed incomes don’t belong in the private sector, at least not in its current form.

6. Too many small apartments

In December 2007 Dublin City Council changed its development plan to increase the minimum size of one-bedroom apartments to 55sq m, up from the national standard of 45sq m. Recently there has been a clamour for it to reduce the minimum size, which it is proposing to do in limited circumstances. But we already have a preponderance of small one-bed apartments, many built between 1999 and 2004. Too many small apartments means that anything decent is too expensive.

7. Letting the sector deteriorate

Almost 85 per cent of Dublin flats inspected in a three-year programme to root out substandard private accommodation failed to meet minimum standards. Problems included fire safety and rat infestations. Old flats are not required to meet the size rules of new apartments, and the flats inspected were half the general minimum size of 55sq m on average. If these deteriorate so much that they have to be shut down, this will further compound the problem.

8. The banning of bedsits

A bedsit does not have to be a byword for substandard accommodation. The 2013 ban relates to flats that do not contain a bathroom. Taking these units out of the system makes sense in the long term, but the ban has reduced the supply of lower-cost accommodation. A more sensible approach might have been to ban the units from being relet once the existing tenant had left rather than insisting that they be upgraded or the tenancy ended.

9. Political kite flying

The Government has finally announced a plan for dealing with spiralling rents, but the extended public toing and froing frightened landlords. That fear probably prompted many landlord to raise their rents in recent months. Tenants and landlords would benefit if politicians came to an agreement behind closed doors and then stuck to it.

10. Slow pace of construction

Rebooting the construction industry has been painfully slow. The Budget announcement that 20,000 homes would be built on sites controlled by the National Asset Management Agency by 2020 should speed things up, and that 90 per cent will be built in Dublin should ease pressure on the rental sector. But more homes are needed far more quickly. One issue is the use of old-fashioned construction methods. Greater use of modular, factory-built housing, assembled on site, could considerably speed up delivery.
