Green Tips to Reduce Christmas Waste

Green Tips to Reduce Christmas Waste
Green Tips to Reduce Christmas Waste

Christmas season brings with it lots of gift wrapping, tons of cards, decorations and even a few trees. Many good things will eventually end up in the trash.

We have created these tips to help the environment during this busy season.

Reusing and reducing Christmas wrapping papers

Wrapping gifts is an important task for all of us! Do not let the environment discourage you. Use what you already have at home.

Instead of using single-use packaging, turn an Amazon box upside down and decorate it.

Reuse paper bags from last week’s grocery shopping to make gift packaging. To make Christmas decorations such as ornaments and garlands, you can use gift labels or wrapping paper.

Bonus tip: You can reuse gift cards from previous years to create gift labels. Get creative

Send digital greetings to family and friends

Digital era is here! Even Santa uses the internet now! Digital gift vouchers and vouchers can save you time, money, and the environment.

Why not send Christmas cards the same way? This eco-friendly Christmas card will make your friends and family digitally happy!

Recycle your Christmas Tree

We are enchanted by the smell of real Christmas trees for weeks. But what do we do when it is time to go? You can recycle it!

Visit the Dublin Zoo’s website. You can usually find a recycling service for Christmas trees. There are two options for Christmas tree recycling in Dublin: either bring it to one of the drop-off locations or have it delivered at your home. Google your local spot.

This Christmas, consider renting Christmas decorations

You don’t have to buy decorations or trees. There is an eco-friendly alternative: renting Christmas decorations and trees.

This option is expensive, but it’s still affordable. You can decorate your home with real decorations and plant fir trees. All you have to do is water them according to the instructions.

Create natural decorations

Are you looking for a unique and creative Christmas? Make your Christmas decorations!

This can be done by looking for twigs from your garden that you can use to create Christmas stars or decorations for windows and trees. You can also use aluminium cake molds or ice sticks.

For your wall wreath, or your door, you can also use twigs or pinecones or branches from your Christmas tree.

These tips will help you reduce the amount of waste that can be harmful to the environment after Christmas. We are certain that your Christmas will be one of the most beautiful.

Here are more tips to reduce your waste this Christmas

  • Make a list, and make sure to check it twice! Purchase only what you really need
  • Avoid clutter by buying an eco-gift, gift voucher, or charity gift. Look for fair-trade and local gifts.
  • You can make your own wrapping or buy recycled paper.
  • Instead of throwing away plates, cups, and bags, use reusable plates, cups, and bags. Loose vegetables, fruits, meat, and cheese are best.
  • You can give new life to the gift boxes and gift bags you received throughout the year. This will make your gifts even more memorable. Create a REUSE Box. Keep your favorite cards in a REUSE box to create fun personalized gift cards next year, or keep the kids entertained on cold winter nights.
  • Order a skip from Dublin company with cheapest skip hire prices in Ireland.
  • Your Brown Bin can be used to scrape plates and/or to compost vegetable peelings.
  • You can segregate your waste, and if it isn’t recyclable, then you can recycle gift wrap, greetings card envelopes, paper&plastic packaging, drink & foods cans, biscuit cans, metal lids juice cartons, plastic bottles, and packaging. Wash n’squash!
  • For all your games, invest in LED Christmas lights as well as battery chargers that can charge rechargeable batteries.
  • Recycle old batteries

Tips on how to dispose of unwanted Christmas gifts

An expert shares tips on how to dispose of unwanted Christmas gifts

Many people have received thoughtful gifts over the holidays that they don’t like. It’s Christmas season, and it’s a time to give and receive gifts. But what happens if you get a gift that you don’t want to keep?

Tips on how to dispose of unwanted Christmas gifts

We have many options in this situation. It is a staggering 33% increase over 2020, as Irish Christmas shoppers spent more than EUR700 this year on Christmas presents.

We are all trying to save money this year so it is important to avoid waste. If you receive a gift, it is a good idea to ask for a refund or exchange.

Ask for a refund in the store

If you get a Christmas present this year that you don’t like, it is worth asking for a refund or exchange. Although you are not legally allowed to return a gift, some shops will allow you to return it and give you a credit note or a refund.

Examine for possible faults

You may not have the same legal rights you had when you bought the gift. However, if the gift is defective or damaged and the receipt is available, you should be able to return the item or get a refund. Make sure you inspect your gift for obvious faults. If there are, send it back to the shop that purchased it for a return or exchange.

Ask if the gift was purchased online

It is worth asking the person who gave you the gift. In Ireland, online shoppers have a 14-day cooling-off period. They can’t see before they pay and cannot return it. If you are comfortable asking, verify that your gift was purchased online.

Online selling of your gift

You can either sell the unwanted present online through Amazon, Adverts, or Done deal if the shop won’t give you a refund or exchange. This will allow you to make some money and get rid the unwanted gift in one easy step.

Giving your gift as a gift

If we are honest, most of us have regifted unwanted presents to family members or friends on special occasions and birthdays. This is also true for Christmas. Instead of regifting your unwanted gift, you can give it to a friend or relative. This could help you save a few dollars.

Donating your gift

It’s possible for people to donate their Christmas gifts to local charities, schools, and community groups. It is best to verify that they will accept your gift.

Swap gifts

Swapping gifts is a great way to help a friend get rid of unwanted gifts. Other apps, such as Nuw, allow you to swap or lend like-new clothing or attend a swap shop.

Reviews for Ringsend recycling centre

Lot of recycling material was piled up in the house. Cardboard, Styrofoam, bottles, plastic, paint. Everything is very well marked at the centre. You just have to put stuff there. I couldn’t find the paint container and a member of the staff came to help me, I didn’t even have to ask.
Great value too as a car costs a mere €15.

A key feature of the Ringsend area is the chimneys of Poolbeg power station.

Ringsend is a southside inner suburb of Dublin, Ireland. It is located on the south bank of the River Liffey and east of the River Dodder, about two kilometres east of the city centre.

Areas included in Ringsend are the south side of the Dublin Docklands, and at the west end is the area of South Lotts and part of the Grand Canal Dock area.

A key feature of the area is the chimneys of Poolbeg power station. Formerly the point where ships arriving from across the Irish Sea would dock, Ringsend went into decline in the 19th and 20th centuries, when the shipping moved to other locations, although there is still some container shipping.

Neighbouring areas include Irishtown, Sandymount and the Beggars Bush part of Ballsbridge to the south, and the city centre to the west.

4 star only because its very busy and dont have too much space

Tibor Kovács:

I was using landfill for first time. It’s a bit tricky and confusing if you didnt separate materials in advance, but the staff is really friendly and helpful.

I’d recommend it.
Take a look on website and be prepared and separate your junk before go there to save time.

4star only because its very busy and dont have too much space to park your car/van inside while you are dropping the garbage out.

Very busy at 10 am

ken farrell:

Very busy at 10 am to day no geography of were to drop the general waste in different skips make things a lot easier for staff and customers would be to give a map of were the skips were the items are to be dropped off number the skips would be very helpful and would make things a lot easier easer for staff and customers alike

Well organised and safe

Larry O ‘Driscoll:

Quiet well organised and safe and kept tidy, however traffic flow once inside can be a bit difficult with vehicles having to reverse in some bays , holding up traffic trying to exit the facility.

Great amenity, a great service for all allowing the public to responsibly dispose of all waste types. Staff were friendly and helpful in word and deed. Thanks to SDCC and staff.
Great value too as a car costs a mere €15.
Michel Tracy
Friendly staff well signposted bays. One incident where some inconsiderate thick put paint in wrong bay and spilled all over the ground and basically didn’t care should have got a massive fine got it on my shoes and clothes, have to say the staff were quick to react and clean the mess left by this thick
Gearoid O Conarain
Second time in Two weeks visiting. Same Problem again: I asked where I put cans told to put them in general waste .Asked where I put cardboard told to put it in general waste . One goes to all the trouble of sorting and cleaning cans and yet your procedures are not followed by your staff . Staff not IRISH
